Raptors Floorball Club

The Raptors Floorball Club was established in 2012 by a group of players to both compete at the highest levels in the Floorball WA (FWA) State League summer competition. From that start, when just one team was entered, our club has grown significantly, with around 100 members representing the Club in each of the five adult divisions. The Club also supported junior teams in each of the three age groups in Revolution Sport’s junior state league competition.

To cope with the demands of the increasing number of members and teams, since 2020 the organisational structures which underpin the Club’s activities have been progressively expanded. This initially involved the establishment of a committee, preparation of Club Values, raising of sponsorships and the incorporation of the Raptors Floorball Club Inc. on 28 October 2021.

In line with the Club’s core value of Develop, there has also been a significant expansion of the junior and senior player development programs. Key initiatives have included the establishment of all-of-Club winter training sessions for club’s FWA State League players, and the provision of a pathway into this competition through the involvement of invited junior players to those sessions. Dedicated junior girls training sessions are now also in their third season. In testament to these programs, the Club had two female and four male
representatives selected for the Australian Under 19’s mens and womens teams. As required by the Association Incorporations Act 2015 (WA), this Annual Report details the both the results of the Club’s activities over the last twelve months, and the Club’s short and medium term objectives.

Message from the President

As we enter the 2022/23 season, which will mark Raptors’ tenth anniversary, our Club has never been stronger. Specifically, I’d like to highlight three key areas, in line with our Club’s Values:

  • Develop: this year will be sixth year of our feed-in Division 3 team. We have used this team to transition our junior player base into the adult summer state league ranks, with support from a small group of parent players each year. Whilst it is great that the team has reached finals in every one of those seasons, and has won the last two, that is not its primary purpose: instead, it is to provide structured development and support for juniors to develop the teamwork and playing skills required to be successful in the higher divisions. The winter fitness and skills training program, now in its third year, has been integral to this success. There will be at least four players participating in this year’s Division 1 mens games who have come through this program – and there are a pipeline of both male and female players who will undoubtedly make the 1’s teams in coming seasons.

  • Compete: our core purpose is as a competitive Club and as such, our focus remains on winning. Our results last season were fantastic – with representation in each of the women’s and three men’s divisions, our Womens 1’s side finished 2nd (narrowly losing the Grand Final in extra time) and our Division 3 side took home the Grand Final premiership after being dominant all year. Each of our men’s White and women’s division 2 teams finished top 2 for the season but lost their semi-finals, finishing third.

  • Respect: a positive, supportive and teamwork focused club culture is integral to our ability to Compete. That culture is embodied by Respect: for teammates, coaches, competitors and officials. We will not be successful in attracting and retaining players of the calibre which we aspire to without embedding Respect through all of our activities. And without a respectful culture we will be unsuccessful in meeting our objective of Develop – our aim is to produce not only skilful floorball players, but provide our Club members with person values which will benefit them in all aspects of their lives. Respect therefore is our most important value.
